Ramya Everson: Has been in the Montessori method of education since 1964. As a child she was trained under the direction of Dr. Maria Montessori and her assistants. She obtained an AMI Montessori Diploma in 1966 from the Good Shepherd Maria Montessori Training Center in Sri Lanka. Ramya's teachers were also students of Dr. Maria Montessori. In 1966 her teaching career started at Ashadon Hall Montessori School in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1968 she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and taught at the Hudson Montessori School until 1973, During that time the school received a award for Best Montessori school in the Nation In 1973 she went to Brazil and trained Montessori teachers at the University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizante, also was a consultant in Rio De Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Upon returning to the US she started her own school in Beloit, Wisconsin until September 1996. During the 20 years of operation the school was well received by the community, and always had a full capacity.
The Teacher
The teacher is not the center of focus as in the traditional classroom. She is a guide to the individual children as she moves quietly around the room. Recognizing that learning is a voluntary act on the part of the ready for it and record his progress. The Classroom
Designed for independent work, the room is equipped with chairs, tables, shelves - all child-size. Low shelves around the room contain didactic materials which the child may work with. The teaching materials also are designed for the independent use, each piece of apparatus isolates a particular problem and is self-corrective Since movement is intimately connected with learning many activities engage the child's large and small muscles, as well as his senses and his mind Many materials are used on mats on the floor.
